A guide to exploring Malta and Gozo using regular bus services. There is a comprehensive network of bus routes, but arming yourself with some basic information is essential, and in this unofficial website I'll do my best to guide you so you can make the most of your visit.

Buses in Malta and Gozo are operated by Malta Public Transport on behalf of the government. Since January 2015 the concession has been held by a Spanish company, Autobuses Urbanos de León. Find out more about how to use public transport in Malta by exploring the menus.


Until 2011 buses in Malta were run by an association of over 400 owners, many of whom drove their own buses. A good proportion of the vehicles were traditional types with locally built bodies, and a few have been beautifully restored to offer vintage tours and private hire.

Open Top

Hop-on hop-off open top bus tours are an ideal way to see the sights in both Malta and Gozo. They are run by private companies to fixed schedules and tickets are valid all day. Tickets bought in advance often include transfers to and from your hotel. Don't forget your sun hat!
